六染心
The six mental 'taints' of the <Awakening of Faith> [lang id =1028]起心論. Though mind-essence is by nature pure and without stain, the condition of [lang id =1028]無明 ignorance, or innocence, permits of taint or defilement corresponding to the following six phases:
(1) [lang id =1028]執相應染 the taint interrelated to attachment, or holding the seeming for the real; it is the state of [lang id =1028]執取相 and [lang id =1028]名字相 which is cut off in the final pratyeka and śrāvaka stage and the bodhisattva [lang id =1028]十住 of faith;
(2) [lang id =1028]不斷相應染 the taint interrelated to the persisting attraction of the causes of pain and pleasure; it is the [lang id =1028]相續相 finally eradicated in the bodhisattva [lang id =1028]初地 stage of purity;
(3) [lang id =1028]分別智相應染 the taint interrelated to the 'particularizing intelligence' which discerns things within and without this world; it is the first [lang id =1028]智相, cut off in the bodhisattva [lang id =1028]七地 stage of spirituality;
(4) [lang id =1028]現色不相應染 the non-interrelated or primary taint, i. e. of the 'ignorant' mind as yet hardly discerning subject from object, of accepting an external world; the third [lang id =1028]現相 cut of in the bodhisattva [lang id =1028]八地 stage of emancipation from the material;
(5) [lang id =1028]能見心不相應染 the non-interrelated or primary taint of accepting a perceptive mind, the second [lang id =1028]轉相, cut of in the bodhisattva [lang id =1028]九地 of intuition, or emancipation from mental effort;
(6) [lang id =1028]根本業不相應染 the non-interrelated or primary taint of accepting the idea of primal action or activity in the absolute; it is the first [lang id =1028]業相, and cut of in the [lang id =1028]十地 highest bodhisattva stage, entering on Buddhahood. See Suzuki's translation, 80-1.

﹝出起信論﹞ 六染心者, 謂心體本淨, 離諸妄染, 以依不覺, 忽起無明, 由無明熏習力故, 遂有六種染心之相。 〔一、 執想應染〕, 謂於苦樂等境, 不了虛無, 妄起執著, 與心相應, 見、 思煩惱之惑污其淨心, 故名執相應染, 即是六麤中第三執取相、 第四計名字相也。 (見、 思者, 見即分別也。 謂意根對法塵, 起諸邪見, 故名見惑。 思即思惟也, 又貪染曰思。 謂眼耳鼻舌身五根, 貪愛色聲香味觸五塵, 而起想著, 故名思惑。 六麤者, 智相、 相續相、 執取相、 計名字相、 起業相、 業繫苦相也。 ) 〔二、 不斷相應染〕, 不斷, 即相續也。 謂於苦樂等境, 與心相應, 數數起念, 相續不斷, 故名不斷相應染, 即是六麤中第二相續相也。 〔三、 分別智相應染〕, 謂能分別世間、 出世間諸法染淨, 故云智也。 此智分別, 亦是法執, 與心相應, 故名分別智相應染, 即是六麤中第一智相也。 〔四、 現色不相應染〕, 現色者, 謂依根本無明熏動淨心, 令現境界之相, 雖現境界之相, 而根本無明最極微細不與心王心所相應, 故名不相應染, 即是三細中第三現相也。 (根本無明者, 謂其能生見、 思等惑也。 心王者, 即第八識也。 心所者, 受想行也。 三細者, 業相、 轉相、 現相也。 ) 〔五、 能見心不相應染〕, 能見心者, 謂根本無明動, 故能令心有所見, 雖令心有所見, 而不與心王心所相應, 故名不相應染, 即是三細中第二轉相也。 〔六、 根本業不相應染〕, 根本業者, 即根本無明也。 謂以無明力故, 不覺心動, 動即成業, 雖動成業, 而不與心王心所相應, 故名不相應染, 即是三細中第一業相也。
